Since its first iteration in 1969 and becoming ALUCA in 1992, the organisation has been driven by the passion and dedication of life insurance underwriters.

Led by Amanda McKernan and her team, ALUCA’s purpose and vision remain steadfast—driving life insurance professional excellence. Amanda’s journey into the social sector has been one of passion and dedication. Despite her extensive career in the corporate world, she remained connected to the social sector through volunteer work with causes that resonated with her values. The opportunity to serve as CEO of ALUCA has allowed her to make a tangible difference, providing meaningful work alongside a group of engaged and talented volunteers, including the Board, and a dedicated team. Their collective efforts ensure that they consistently deliver outstanding customer outcomes for the communities they serve.

Better Impact: ALUCA's Story Strategic thinking at ALUCA, as Amanda describes, is about clarity of vision and purpose. It involves stepping back from day-to-day operations to focus on the big picture, synthesizing macro and micro environmental information to identify opportunities, minimize risks, create value, and foster innovation. It’s about remaining curious, challenging the status quo, and knowing how to separate strategic thinking from planning and execution.

Looking ahead, the future of ALUCA is promising. Currently, Spark Strategy is assisting them with a strategic review to ensure their 3-5 year vision is fit for purpose. This review has presented a range of strong strategic options that align with ALUCA’s vision. Next month, during their strategy day, these recommendations will be assessed based on strategic fit, risk assessment, and cost-benefit analysis to effectively evaluate, prioritize, and select both short- and long-term strategic directions.

Partnerships have always been a cornerstone of ALUCA’s strategy. Strategic partnerships are a key focus in the ongoing strategic review. ALUCA has a rich history of collaboration with various organisations, and this will undoubtedly continue to be a pivotal aspect of their strategy moving forward.
